Because of it's "un-importance" to the US, the US sent only a small peace party to Rwanda that was only in Kigali and there would be no taking away weapons, only "observing". But by day 12 of the Genocide, the US and the UN vote to withdraw 90% of the peacekeepers.

Belgium took more of a direct control of the situation, sending in troops to control the crowds. Only when 10 soldiers were tricked, tortured, and murdered in cold blood did Belgium pull out its troops.

New Zealand, Nigeria and the Czech Republic were the only countries to support violence to end the genocide.
